My girl's first word...

Ok, I realise that a baby's first word is quite often Mama or Dada. Sophie, now 13 months, does say these but I'm not convinced she knows their meaning.

However, just 5 minutes ago, whilst reading her and Harry, Room on the Broom, Sophie as clear as day said....

'Dog'

I'm literally beaming!

Not because she said the word 'dog' in particular, but the fact that she recognised a picture, pointed to it, and said what it was for the very first time!

It is such a special moment to witness so clearly. Paul was in the room too luckily, and he usually misses those first moments.

Harry didn't really have a first word. He mumbled sounds and they gradually merged into words over time.

I'm obviously no less proud of Harry, but Sophie has just amazed me unexpectedly!

Quite appropriately, I'm linking this post with Katie's #OrdinaryMoments from Mummy Daddy Me.

  8. My daughter's first word was "dada". Her younger brother didn't say much for ages and then started talking in sentences. Weird how they learn, isn't it! #mummymondays

    1. Yes, they definitely do it all very differently! It kind of made me sad that I don't know what Harry's official first word was but got lots of other 'first' memories anyway :) x

  10. Oh lovely! My little ones first word was also Dog and we knew she was aware of its meaning because she had seen our neighbours dog out the window! She's now 2 and we can't shut her up!

    1. Wow! Dog seems like a popular first word! Must be so easy for them to say. My 3 year old won't shut up either so I'm sure Sophie will be the same soon! :)
